For Replication best practices and restrictions please refer to the User Manual.
Configure a Shared folder on the target TeraStation
Note: Starting from TS5020/3030 firmware version v3.00, it is mandatory to set a backup access key for a backup target share folder.
Note: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, the backup access key requires 8 - 20 characters.
Configure the Replication Job on the source TeraStation Note: If the replication target TeraStation is not a TS5020/3030 with firmware version v3.00 or later, enable this TLS option from Management > Security/Encryption Settings to allow the communication.
Note: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, requires the backup access key to be 8 - 20 characters. So it is also required to setup the corresponding target's backup access key to be 8 - 20 characters regardless the target model and firmware is.
Replication target Buffalo NAS is on the same network
Note: If the replication target has multiple folders designated as backup targets, be certain to select the correct folder. Only one source can replicate to a single folder. Multiple source devices replicating to the same folder will overwrite data. Note1: TS5020/3030 series starting from firmware version v3.00, "Encrypted data transport" for backups/replications is now the default selection for new setup jobs.
Replication target Buffalo NAS device is on another network but the two networks are connected by a VPN or the route is configured properly.
Note: If the target TeraStation is behind a router, enter the router's WAN side IP address.
You will need to map ports 873, 8873, 22936, 22938, and 22939 to the target TeraStation in the router for this to work correctly. If these ports are being blocked by the service provider you will need to work with your service provider to open these ports.
For assistance with configuring port forwarding on a Buffalo router, see here. To configure port forwarding on a different router, please refer to the manual for the specific router.
873 TCP Backup / Replication 8873 TCP Backup / Replication(encrypted)- non-WSS TeraStation only 22936 TCP/UDP BUFFALO Applications (NasNavigator2、FWUpdates and else) 22938 TCP/UDP Detection between NAS 22939 TCP/UDP Detection between NAS
NOTE: During replication the data on the target folder may be inaccessible. Replication is a background operation with no progress indicator and a lower internal priority than servicing client requests and may take several hours, especially for an initial replication consisting of several hundred megabytes of data or more. Subsequent replications only copy over changed files and should take less time.
