Security

Buffalo’s acclaimed TeraStation Network Attached Storage solutions are purpose-built for data security to bring peace of mind for SMB. With nuanced features like a closed system and robust backup and replication options, Buffalo looks to protect your data from both internal and external threats at minimal cost and effort to you.

Closed System

Most competitors’ NAS devices allow third party apps to be installed via an app store, which is a possible vector for ransomware and other malware, not to mention introducing vulnerabilities that can become avenues of cyberattacks. The TeraStation runs on a closed system, with not even the system administrator having root rights.

Robust Encryption at Every Level

The TeraStation NAS can be configured to require authentication during boot-up. If the boot authentication is not present, the NAS will not boot and data on it cannot be read under any circumstance, preventing unauthorized boot-ups or resets of a stolen device. The TeraStation also offers the option to encrypt the drives with AES 256-bit strong encryption. Even when HDDs are taken out of the unit, they cannot be read by a PC or on other TeraStation unit.

Protected File Transfers

The Network Attached Storage supports SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol), which enables secure file transfer capabilities between networked hosts, and online access can be encrypted by HTTPS. The TeraStation also only allows connections to available network services, which you can still limit to the ones you really need and use by enabling/disabling them per LAN port and service, further minimizing risks for your business.

Automated Backups

The TeraStation 3020 offers a myriad of backup options, including Time Machine compatibility and Microsoft Azure and OneDrive sync, that you can configure to run based on your schedule for maximum convenience and back up data from both local and online file storage. You can configure to have backups run during off hours or on weekends to make sure your daily operations are not disrupted while you back up storage files.

Stability

Buffalo NAS are constructed with quality hardware, and designed to maintain uptime and provide data availability. Native data protection features ensure that your data remains safe and available, and that you have a variety of backup options to minimize the possibility of data loss.

Pre-tested HDD/Pre-configured RAID

Using low-quality or pre-used hard drives can have muddled drive capacities, which can lead to many issues, including sudden hardware failure. The TeraStation comes with drives included, and we carefully select our drives and rigorously test them before adding them to the product chassis to ensure the highest level of quality for reliable data storage.we carefully select our drives and rigorously test them before adding them to the product chassis to ensure the highest level of quality for reliable data storage

Pre-configured RAID

Configuring a RAID array can be a complex and time-consuming process. Once a NAS server is deployed and running, you might have very few opportunities in the future to take if offline for reconfiguration. The TeraStation 3020 offers you out-of-the-box data protection, saving you the time and effort of building your own RAID array before using the NAS in your environment.

Enhanced Data Protection

For physical protection, the TeraStation features Kensington lock compatibility. The TeraStation also features a physical security key with lockable doors that prevent the disks from being taken out of the unit without the key.

Replication and Failover

The TeraStation NAS offers replication and failover. Replication allows you to duplicate data from the TeraStation to another server, so that data is always available even if the TeraStation becomes inaccessible. Failover is a system where two TeraStations on the same network can be set up so that if one TeraStation becomes unavailable, the other one instantly takes over as a replacement with the same settings and data so you experience no disruptions.

Award-Winning Support/Warranty

To offer further peace of mind, Buffalo offers a 3-year product warranty (5-year optional extension) with our award-winning, 24/7 North America-based support, as well as our Simple Logical Data Recovery service qualification when the product is registered. The TeraStation is designed to be a turn-key data storage system that requires minimal effort from you to manage your data.

Simplicity

Buffalo NAS are designed to increase your productivity and efficiency, so you can manage your data with minimal hassle. The TeraStation 3020 comes with features that minimize configuration and management needs so you can focus on what’s important for your business.

2.5GbE for Enhanced Data Transfers

The TeraStation features a native 2.5GbE port to enable faster data transfer and access. There is no rewiring required—you can use your existing Cat5e cable for your current Ethernet connection.

Upgrading to 2.5GbE enables network possibilities that were not feasible before. A faster network means increased data transfer speeds, allowing for faster data backups and smoother remote work. Common daily operations such as video production/editing, database management, and NAS storage and backup will all benefit from more bandwidth by allowing you to access and backup data faster. You can also support more stable concurrent application sessions for more stable workloads.

Cloud Integration

The TeraStation NAS supports cloud integration with established services such as Amazon S3, Dropbox, and Azure and OneDrive. You can use the cloud to share data with clients, enable smooth collaboration and data backup amongst team members of your organization, or create a hybrid cloud to enable instant data availability to meet sudden demands, expand your capacity to scale with your business while saving costs, and meet industry compliance while streamlining your business.

Remote Management Service

If you have multiple NAS devices, especially across multiple locations, managing them can be quite the hassle. Buffalo’s Remote Management Service presents our users with option to easily manage multiple devices, including the TeraStation 3020, from one screen. With Remote Management Service, you can monitor the status of each device and its drives, set timed remote operations, and receive real-time notifications of any events or errors, saving you valuable time and travel costs.

Flexible Expansion

The TeraStation Network Attached Storage can be purchased partially-populated, so you can meet your immediate data needs while keeping the option to expand as you see fit to meet future demands. Better yet, the TeraStation supports iSCSI, and you can leverage it to effortlessly expand your storage to scale with your business growth. With iSCSI, even if the TeraStation no longer has spare bays for additional drives, you can still quickly and seamlessly expand your storage without having to reconfigure your network.
