An established operating system, Windows Server IoT 2019 is a binary equivalent of the Windows Server 2019 operating system made specially for network-attached storage (NAS) devices that introduces new storage management and analytics tools and enhanced data security capabilities. The TeraStation running Windows Server IoT 2019 is a network-attached storage device that fully leverages the native Windows Server operating system in order to provide file storage and data security to SMB, while taking advantage of the operating system’s seamless integration with other Windows devices and services that allow it to be effortlessly incorporated into an existing Windows environment.
The native data management capabilities can improve your storage resource utilization and enhance your data security, and you can establish a secure and flexible private cloud by using nearly any cloud service while reducing costs.
Compared to other NAS devices or file servers running another operating system, the Windows Server IoT NAS does not require a Windows Server Client Access License (CAL). Typically, each connection to a Windows Server device requires a CAL, either User CALs (for every user accessing the server) or Device CALs (for every device accessing the server). If you have a large number of users or client devices, this can add up quickly. However, since the Windows Server IoT 2019 NAS does not require any CALs, you can easily integrate the NAS into your Windows environment without incurring additional costs. Whether replacing an existing server or simply adding a new file storage server, you can do so without needing to purchase new CALs.
Because the NAS can integrate any Windows-compatible service or application, you can easily set up the NAS to use the same tools and services you already use, saving you time and effort to include it as part of your storage network.
Because Windows Server IoT 2019 belongs to the Windows Server operating system family, it offers effortless integration with countless commercial software and services that have been extensively tested for Windows compatibility. This allows you to install endpoint security software such as anti-virus software on the NAS itself, or use data backup software you prefer on your NAS to better address your data backup needs, allowing you to configure the device to meet your specific demands.
Windows Server IoT 2019 also allows you to manage your users with more efficiency. Since it features native Active Directory support, you can centrally manage any number of users without increasing processing loads on the NAS.
You can also integrate any cloud service to use with your NAS, and because it can be used as any Windows client, you can set up the NAS for backup for a variety of scenarios, such as backing up to and from the cloud, archiving data from local devices, or creating an offsite co-location replication destination. This not only streamlines backup and device management for your office, but can also add a layer of data security as well.
You can also use the NAS to back up any Windows server or any Windows cloud such as Azure or OneDrive, and set up the NAS as an offsite replication location to further protect your data.
With effortless and cost-effective integration into an existing Windows environment, as well as the ability to incorporate countless Windows-compatible software and services, the TeraStation with Windows Server IoT 2019 is a versatile NAS that enables you to store, back up, and manage your data as you see fit. The native operating system offers a host of data management and security features that help you save storage space and protect your data by utilizing built-in file deduplication, compression, and security features. The lack of CALs also helps reduce in the installation cost, making it an ideal data storage/backup device that can be established seamlessly into your data infrastructure.
